Bid Optimizer

Amazon bid optimization, simplified: tell us the keyword economics and this bid optimizer computes the bid that hits your ACoS target — the same target-driven math behind Adaptive Bidding.

Switching mode suggests a matching target above.
Caps the recommendation at 20% of budget.

Worked example

A sample keyword, run through the Amazon PPC bid optimizer.

Illustrative example — sample numbers, not live Amazon data

The scenario

Priya bids $1.10 on “insulated water bottle” . Her bottle sells for $24.99 with a 12.5% conversion rate, and her target ACoS is 25% .

What she enters

Keyword, price $24.99, CPC $0.95, CVR 12.5%, target ACoS 25%, profit mode.

What the optimizer shows

Recommended bid = 25% × $24.99 × 12.5% = $0.78 . Her current CPC of $0.95 is running about 22% hot — the verdict says lower the bid ~18%.

The action

She drops the bid to $0.78 and re-checks in a week. Keywords already under target get the opposite treatment: the optimizer tells her exactly how much headroom she has to raise.

Pro tips: getting the most from the Bid Optimizer

The optimizer computes a recommended bid from your target ACoS, price and conversion rate — recommended bid = target ACoS × price × CVR. These five practices keep that math honest.

Set the mode before you trust the number

The campaign-mode switch isn’t cosmetic: Launch presets a 60% target ACoS (you’re buying data) while Profit presets 20% (you’re defending margin). Since the whole formula keys off target ACoS, the same keyword with the same price and CVR gets a very different bid in each mode. Pick the mode that matches the campaign’s actual job before you read the recommendation.

Respect the 20% budget guardrail

If you enter a daily budget, the optimizer caps the recommendation at 20% of it — one keyword should never be able to eat the whole budget in a few clicks. When the guardrail fires, the message isn’t “this keyword is bad”; it’s “your budget is too thin for this keyword at this bid”. Either raise the budget or accept fewer impressions, but don’t override the cap blindly.

Add unit profit to unlock the CPA check

Target ACoS is a goal; unit profit is reality. Enter your per-unit profit and the optimizer compares cost-per-order at the recommended bid against it: comfortably below 80% of profit is healthy, near 100% is marginal, above it means you’re losing money on every order. If the benchmark check comes back red, lower the bid or fix conversion first — no ACoS target can save an unprofitable unit.

Re-run after 20–30 clicks, not after 3

The recommendation is only as good as the CVR you feed it, and CVR needs data. The tool’s ±15% keep-band exists to stop you churning bids on noise — if the verdict says “keep”, hold steady and come back after 20–30 more clicks. Optimizing on a dozen clicks is just reacting to randomness with extra steps.

Use the what-if rows to sense-check your data

The 80% and 120% CVR rows show how sensitive the recommended bid is to your conversion rate. If a small CVR swing moves the bid by 40%, your sample is too small to trust — gather more clicks before acting. If the bid barely moves, your CVR is stable and the recommendation is solid. Sensitivity is information; use it.

Frequently asked questions

Work from your target ACoS: recommended bid = target ACoS × price × conversion rate. If a keyword's ACoS is above target, lower the bid toward the recommended number; if it's below target and converting, you have headroom to raise. The optimizer runs this math for you.
Max bid = target ACoS × selling price × conversion rate. For example, a $25 product at 10% conversion with a 30% target ACoS supports a $0.75 bid. It's the industry-standard formula because it directly ties what you pay per click to what each click is worth.
Usually yes — if a keyword converts under your target ACoS, raising the bid buys more impressions and sales while staying profitable. Raise in 10–20% steps and watch for a few days; ACoS often dips before it climbs.
Lower bids on keywords above target, negate the search terms that spend without converting, and shift budget to your proven converters. This tool handles the bid math; pair it with the Negative Keyword Analyzer for the waste-cutting half.
