Placement Bid Modifier Calculator

Amazon lets you raise bids by placement — Top of Search, Product Pages, and Rest of Search — but the right multiplier depends on your own numbers. Enter your base bid and per-placement conversion data, and the calculator works out sensible modifiers: bid up where it converts, pull back where it doesn't. Simple arithmetic, no Amazon connection needed.

Your campaign's default bid before placement modifiers.
Amazon allows 0–900% for Top of Search.
Amazon allows 0–900% for Product Pages.

Placement modifier: pro tips

  1. Work backwards from the effective bid. The calculator shows effective bid = base bid × (1 + modifier ÷ 100): a $1.00 base with a 50% Top of Search modifier bids $1.50 there. Decide the most you'd actually pay for that placement, then solve for the modifier.
  2. Set modifiers from your own placement-level conversion data, not guesses. Segment campaign performance by placement in the Amazon Ads console — raise Top of Search 50–100% only where its conversion rate beats the campaign average, and pull Product Pages back if it consistently underperforms.
  3. Stay far below the 900% cap in practice. Amazon allows modifiers up to 900%, but triple-digit multipliers usually mean the base bid is wrong. Fix the base bid first, then use placement modifiers for 10–100% fine-tuning.

What are Amazon placement bid modifiers — and why use them?

Not all ad placements are equal. Top of Search usually converts at a very different rate than Product Pages or Rest of Search, so a single flat bid is always wrong somewhere. Placement modifiers let you pay more where it converts and less where it doesn't.

The catch is picking the right percentages. Guess too high and you overpay for position; too low and you vanish from the placements that drive your sales. This calculator grounds the decision in your own conversion data instead of gut feel.

How do I calculate placement bid modifiers?

Three inputs, one sensible answer:

  1. Enter your campaign's base bid — the bid Amazon uses for Rest of Search.
  2. Add your conversion rate (or ROAS) for Top of Search, Product Pages, and Rest of Search.
  3. Get recommended modifiers that bid up strong placements and pull back weak ones.
  4. Apply the multipliers in your campaign's placement settings and re-check monthly.

This calculator shows the real CPC impact before you commit.
Amazon allows bid increases of up to 900% on Top of Search and Product Pages. Rest of Search has no modifier — it always uses your base bid.
Use modifiers when one placement converts clearly better or worse than the others — that's exactly what they're for. Change the base bid when the whole campaign needs to move up or down together.
No. It does straightforward math on the numbers you enter — base bid and per-placement performance — and nothing leaves your browser.
Monthly is a good rhythm for most accounts, or after any big change in bids or budgets. Our free PPC Audit Checklist includes placement modifiers as a standing review checkpoint.
Percentage bid adjustments for top-of-search and product-page placements. They multiply your base bid when your ad is eligible for that placement — so a $1.00 bid with a 50% top-of-search modifier can bid up to $1.50 there. Set them per campaign based on where your conversions actually come from.
