The 7 metrics every PPC report needs
Most sellers drown in Seller Central columns. A useful Amazon PPC report needs exactly seven metrics — everything else is decoration:
- Spend — total ad cost in the period. The input to every efficiency metric.
- Ad-attributed sales — revenue Amazon credits to your ads. Pair it with spend for ACoS.
- ACoS — spend divided by ad sales. Your headline efficiency number; check it with a free ACoS calculator .
- TACoS — spend divided by total sales (ads + organic). The number that tells you whether ads are building the business or just renting sales.
- Conversion rate (CVR) — orders per click. When ACoS spikes, CVR tells you whether bids or the listing is at fault.
- Click-through rate (CTR) — clicks per impression. Low CTR means your ad is losing the click battle — usually a main-image or price problem.
- Search term efficiency — spend and orders per search term , not per keyword. This is where wasted spend hides, and where a search term analyzer earns its keep.
Key takeaway: Report spend, ad sales, ACoS, TACoS, CVR, CTR and per-search-term efficiency. If a metric cannot change a decision, it does not belong in the report.
ACoS vs TACoS in reporting
Reports that show only ACoS tell half the story. ACoS measures ad efficiency ; TACoS measures business dependence on ads . The combinations tell you what is happening:
- ACoS up, TACoS down — ads are buying rank that converts organically. Often healthy.
- ACoS down, TACoS up — ads look efficient but organic sales are slipping. Investigate the listing.
- Both rising — the account is getting more expensive across the board. Time for a full PPC account audit .
Any PPC reporting software worth using shows both side by side, trended over time — a single-week snapshot of either metric is noise.
Search term reporting: where profit hides
Keyword-level reports lie by aggregation: one keyword can look profitable while three of its search terms bleed money. Always report at the search term level:
- Download the search term report from Seller Central (weekly, minimum).
- Flag terms with 15+ clicks and zero orders — pure waste.
- Harvest terms with orders into exact-match campaigns with controlled bids.
Our free search term harvester automates steps two and three from a pasted report — the closest thing to PPC reporting software that costs nothing and runs in your browser.
Placement reporting
Break performance into Top of Search, product pages and rest of search. If Top of Search converts at double the rate of rest of search, your bid modifiers are probably too timid; if product pages eat 30% of spend at 60% ACoS, they need negatives or a zero modifier. Placement reporting is the input to every smart bid adjustment.

PPC reporting FAQ
PPC reporting software collects your advertising data — spend, sales, ACoS, TACoS, search terms, placements — and turns it into readable reports and dashboards. For Amazon sellers it usually means scheduled summaries of campaign performance, search-term triage, and trend tracking, replacing manual Seller Central spreadsheet work.
Seven: ad spend, ad-attributed sales, ACoS, TACoS, conversion rate, click-through rate, and per-search-term efficiency. ACoS and TACoS together tell you whether ads are efficient and whether the business is becoming less dependent on them.
Weekly for search terms and bid decisions (with at least 7 days of data per decision), monthly for full audit-style reports with TACoS trends, and daily only for budget pacing checks during peak seasons. Daily bid changes on thin data do more harm than good.
A repeatable one-page structure: period KPIs with deltas, best/worst campaigns, search-term actions taken, placement notes, and the next three fixes with owners and dates. It turns reporting from a data dump into a decision document.
Yes. Seller Central's campaign manager and downloadable reports contain everything needed; free browser tools can triage search terms and score account health. Paid software mainly buys automation and scheduled delivery — the analysis framework is the same.
A structured review comparing your paid search performance against competitors' visible tactics — keyword coverage, ad placement presence, and pricing positioning — combined with an internal efficiency audit. For Amazon sellers, the practical version is a monthly audit report benchmarking your metrics against your own history and category norms.
